Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C / Gas Mark 4).
Slice the sausage into ½-inch rounds.
In a large bowl, combine the BBQ sauce and liquid smoke. Add the sliced sausage and toss until fully coated.
Transfer the sausage mixture to a 9x13 baking dish.
Sprinkle the light brown sugar evenly over the top.
Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbling and sticky and the top has caramelized.
Remove from the oven and serve immediately over rice, with cornbread, or as a party appetizer with toothpicks.
