Super Dad Father’s Day Gift: The Sweetest Superhero Craft Kids Can Make in Minutes

Father’s Day is coming up fast – and if you’re looking for a gift that’s equal parts adorable, personal, and totally dad-worthy, you’ve found it.

This Super Dad Father’s Day Gift is one of those rare crafts that checks every box: kids love making it, dads love receiving it, and it comes together so quickly you could honestly pull it off the night before.

The best part? It involves chocolate. Because every superhero deserves a little sweet reward.

We first made this craft as a superhero Mother’s Day gift, and the response was so overwhelming that we knew Dad needed his own version. And let’s be honest – dads have just as many superpowers as moms do.

Whether it’s always knowing how to fix things, giving the world’s best piggyback rides, or just being the one who shows up every single day – Dad is a superhero. This craft says exactly that.

What Makes This Father’s Day Gift So Special

It’s not just cute – it’s meaningful.

Every gift includes a personalized message on the back where kids fill in the blank: “My Dad is SUPER because…”

That little handwritten sentence? That’s the part that’s going to make Dad tear up a little. (We’re not crying, you’re crying.)

The finished gift looks like a mini superhero figure – complete with a colorful cape, a superhero mask, and a bold “Super Dad” badge – all wrapped around a Hershey’s chocolate bar.

It’s a gift Dad can display on his desk, show off to his coworkers, and then eat when nobody’s looking.

Who Can Receive This Gift?

We know that every family is different, and we designed this craft with that in mind.

The downloadable template includes label options for:

  • Dad
  • Grandpa
  • Uncle
  • Super Hero
  • Super Man

This makes it perfect for classroom Father’s Day parties, Sunday school groups, or any setting where kids might be celebrating different father figures in their lives.

No matter who the special man in their life is, this gift works.

Supplies You’ll Need

The supply list is short, simple, and easy to grab. Here’s everything you need:

Hershey’s chocolate bar (the standard 1.55 oz size)

Colored cardstock paper

Markers or crayons

Scissors

Tape

Glue stick

Yarn for hair (optional, but adorable)

That’s it. No fancy tools, no craft store run required. Most of this is probably already sitting in your junk drawer or kids’ art supplies.

How to Make the Super Dad Father’s Day Gift

Follow these six easy steps and you’ll have an impressive, heartfelt gift ready to go in no time.

Step 1: Download and Print the Template

Start by downloading the Super Dad Father’s Day gift template. Once you’ve got it printed, you have two options:

Option A: Print everything on plain white paper and let the kids color every piece from scratch. This gives them more creative ownership – and keeps it budget-friendly.

Option B: Print the capes directly onto colored cardstock for a bolder, more vibrant look. For the face template, use a skin-tone cardstock if you know the child’s preference, or stick with white so kids can color in their own skin tone.

If you’re making these with a large group of children, white paper for the face template is usually the safest and most inclusive choice.

Step 2: Cut Out All the Pieces

Once your template is printed, cut out every piece carefully:

  • The superhero cape
  • The circular face
  • The “Super Dad” badge
  • The personalized gift tag

Take your time with the cape – clean edges make the finished gift look much more polished.

Step 3: Color and Personalize

Now the fun part begins.

Using markers or crayons, color in the superhero face and the Super Dad badge. Let the kids go wild with this – the more personality, the better.

If you want to take it up a notch, cut a few short pieces of yarn and glue them to the top of the face as hair. It adds a charming, handmade touch that makes each one totally unique.

Once the face is colored, flip over the gift tag and have the child complete the sentence: “My Dad is SUPER because…”

Encourage them to think of something specific – not just “because he’s nice,” but something like “because he makes the best pancakes” or “because he always comes to my games.” The more personal, the more Dad will love it.

Step 4: Wrap the Cape Around the Chocolate Bar

Place the Hershey’s chocolate bar face-down on top of the cape, aligning it with the bottom edge of the template.

Fold the top corners of the cape down and crease them firmly around the chocolate bar so the cape wraps snugly around it.

Add a piece of tape to secure the cape in place – one strip at the top and one at the bottom works perfectly.

Step 5: Attach the Face and Badge

Now it’s time to bring your superhero to life.

Place a small piece of tape at the top of the chocolate bar and press the face onto it.

Then add another piece of tape near the middle-front of the bar and attach the Super Dad badge.

Step back and look at it – that right there is a superhero. A chocolate superhero, but still.

Step 6: Add the Personalized Gift Tag

Flip the whole thing over.

Using a glue stick or a piece of tape, attach the personalized “My Dad is SUPER because…” tag to the back of the cape.

This is the hidden gem of the whole gift. Dad will flip it over and read exactly why his kid thinks he’s the greatest – in their own handwriting, in their own words.

That’s the part he’ll keep forever.

Your Super Dad Gift Is Ready!

Seriously – look at what you just made.

It’s sweet (literally and figuratively), it’s personal, and it took less than 30 minutes. That’s a Father’s Day win.

Whether Dad opens it at a big family brunch or finds it sitting on the kitchen counter Sunday morning, one thing is guaranteed: he’s going to smile so big.

And if you’re making a batch of these for a classroom party or a group event, the different template options – Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Super Hero, Super Man – mean every single child can give a gift that feels made just for their person.

Tips for Making This Craft Even Better

Want to take it to the next level? Here are a few easy ideas:

Make it a class activity. This craft is perfect for preschool and elementary school Father’s Day parties. Lay out all the supplies station-style and let kids rotate through. It moves fast and everyone ends up with something they’re proud of.

Add a second chocolate bar. If you want to make the gift a little more substantial, tuck a second Hershey’s bar behind the first before wrapping the cape. Instant upgrade.

Photograph it before gifting. These little superhero figures are genuinely adorable. Snap a photo before Dad tears into the chocolate – you’ll want to remember it.

Use it as a card. The personalized message on the back means this gift doubles as a card. No need to buy a separate one.

Why Kids Love Making This Craft

There’s something magical about a kid making a gift entirely with their own hands.

This craft gives kids real creative decisions – which colors to use, what to write, whether to add yarn hair. They’re not just following instructions; they’re making something that reflects how they see their dad.

And when Dad opens it and reads that handwritten message? That moment is priceless. No store-bought card can compete with it.

Why Dads Love Receiving This Gift

Because it shows thoughtfulness without trying too hard.

There’s a Hershey’s bar involved (always a win), a superhero theme (let’s be real, every dad secretly loves superheroes), and a personal message written by the most important little human in his life.

It’s the kind of gift that sits on a desk at work for weeks. The kind that gets photographed and sent to the grandparents. The kind Dad brings up years later: “Remember that chocolate superhero you made me?”

Yeah. It’s that kind of gift.

Happy crafting – and happy Father’s Day to all the super dads out there!
